Mama wants to record what KK can do or say since she is getting forgetful...

People she names: mama, baba, kun kun, por por, yee yee, Elken (her friend at church), cheung (Jaci, this is new, when i showed her B and Jaci's pic couple nights ago), je je, gor gor, and dei dei (ian), ar yee (her babysitter), and her friends at daycare.

She can say her favorite food: nanana (banana), su su (water), bao bao (bread), si si (cheese), apple, nai nai (milk), ben ben (cookie), tze (grapes), si gua (watermelon from violet's toy), etc.
And when she sees a birthday cake, she says "to you", oh and "Yummy"

Animals: wo woo (dog), meow meow (cat), chu chu (pig), moo moo cow, panda, bird bird, yu yu (fish), and cheung cheung (elephant), waa (frog), guai guai (turtle), bumble bee, lady bug... and her favorite is buttefly, she will do the flying motion and say "fei"

Singing: KK always surprises me of how much songs she actually knows. She can fill in the words when I stop singing, usually the last words of the phrase. Some of the songs she knows:

Ian - 5 months

3/6 at his 4 month well visit

Ian is cooing, squealing, laughing out loud. He is no longer fuzzy at 9pm like he used to every night for 2 hrs when he was 2-3 months old, which definitely makes baba very happy.

Thank God that Ian is another happy baby.

Now Ian is 5.5 months. He knows how to roll over, grab toys, and loves to examine his hands and fingers, and looking at the mirror. Mama thinks he is great the he can fall asleep on his own, but Baba still loves to carry him until he falls asleep.

Our stay at Children's Hospital in Central California

Our trip to Fresno 3/28-30
3/28 - Great grandma's funeral. We drove up to Fresno early in the morning. Mama was comforted to see all her family and relatives and to remember por por together.

3/28 - 3/30 Mama and Baba stayed with KK at the hospital
We noticed KK's left eyelid was a little pink and swollen on our ride to Fresno, but it just got worse after the service, so we took her to ER in the afternoon. KK was admitted for antiobiotics with IVs right the way (well, after 5 hrs at ER, which is relatively short). It was 11pm when we finally got to our room. Baba and Mama stayed with KK in the hospital while Ian stayed with grandma and grandpa at 2 Kou Kun's house. We're so fortunate that KK got immediate treatment, Ian was well taken care of, and the hospital is only 10 mins away.

We stayed there for 2 nights and it was a precious experience for all of us. KK remained bubbly except when the nurse refilled her antibiotics every 8 hrs. Baba played with KK at the play room every day while Mama went to see Ian. We also took KK on wagon rides all over the hospital and she would smile and greet people passing by. Meanwhile Ian was very cooperative and entertaining to all the great uncles and aunts. We feel so blessed with this unexpected experience. And thanks the staff at the hospital for their professional and pleasant service.

Great grandma

Our great grandma passed away 3/24... we all miss her. Mama, yee yee's and all the uncles and aunties remember great grandma as a loving, witty, cute, happy lady, devoted her life to her family, she will always be remembered. Ian doesn't have the privilege to meet great grandma but we'll tell him all about her.

KK - 15 months
Walking : still learning, sometimes she thinks she can run and ends up falling... mama has to watch her very closely. She has her first bump on the forehead at the park last week.
Reading: she loves to read (or flip) board books, especially the bible given by brigitte jei jei.
Talking: KK loves to call "baba", she can also say nana (banana), bye bye, kum kum (piano), ball ball, dada (dan dan = egg), kitty (hello kitty), di di (her my melody), yee yee, kun kun, nai nai (milk), etc. Lately, she loves to pretends talking on the phone, it's very funny.

Ian - 2 months
Ian has grown so much, doubled his birth weight. He is having 5-6oz per feeding. And he can now focus on our faces and occasionally response to us with a smile. Ian has strong neck (likes to lift his head) and grip (especially when he grabs mama's hair...).

A lot happened in November...

Nov 5-6 auntie Violet from HK and helen yee came to visit us. I finally get to meet auntie Violet and made her laugh a lot.

My brother Ian was born November 8, 6lb, 18in. Ian was so anxious to come to the world that Mama delivered him within 2 hours of being admitted to the hospital. I was very good with grandma and grandpa at home. Yee yee, yee cheung, auntie violet and uncle Jackie surprised us with another short visit just to see baby ian and us again, that was so nice!

I love to see and touch Ian, he has such big eyes and mouth!

We also celebrated Mama's birthday and thanksgiving.

I'm still learning to walk and had a little accident on thanksgiving night, bumped my month to the sofa at grandma's... gum was bleeding and scared mama a lot...

My 1st Birthday

My b-day celebration started off with a car ride. Baba, mama, and Helen yee yee took me to the Sea World in San Diego. We had a fun day and I was very excited to see all the fishes, dolphins, sea lions, penguins, etc. In the evening, we had dinner with kun kun, por por, and uncle Jackson's family, followed by cake cutting at home.

At her 9 month well visit, KK weighs 17lb9oz, 28in tall. KK has picked up quite a lot of skills these couple months: sit up really well, push up to sit, pull up to stand, clap, wave, picking up food with her fingers, etc. She is learning to crawl and stand too.

We had a very nice July 4th with family, including yee yee, yee cheung, tai por from SF. Even though KK was a little sick, she was still very playful. We had our 1st BBQ at our backyard, and KK watched the fireworks for the first time.

KK is getting more and more funny... watch her.

Road Trip to SF

We went on a road trip (my first one) to San Jose/San Francisco a couple weeks ago. I had a great time, visiting baba's high school in Pebble Beach, meeting a lot of friends and family, and attending a wedding. Though it was a very exhausting trip, I was very good with the long car ride, spent most of the time sleeping and playing.

April has been a busy month for mama (tax season) and me as well - many visitors, 6 months well visit to the doctor, baba mama's anniversary... but i had a great time, even started to eat solid food.

Baba's B-day

Last Saturday was baba's birthday. I woke up early to 'say' happy birthday to baba so that i can sneak in and sleep with baba and mama after my breakfast.

After we were all well-rested and fed, we took a trip to Ikea and Babiesrus. Even though i have been there many times in mama's tummy, this is my first time seeing everything with my own eyes, and it's all very interesting. I was very good the whole day.

After we got home, baba fed me while mama prepared a birthday dinner for baba. It was a fun day but we were all exhausted.

I (and mama) got sick at Chinese new year... cough, runny nose, bronchiolitis and minor ear infection. Though I wasn't feeling well and even lost my voice at one point, i was still very good and remains bubbly. I love to laugh and play. This video was taken on 2/17 after my recovery.

I'm now 4 months, 14lb3oz, 25in.

First Christmas

Kaitlin's first Christmas kicked off with an exciting and scary episode. We were about to go to church on 12/23 Sunday to meet baba, since baba has left early in the morning to be in the choir. As mama was ready to get into the car, she realized that all the doors were locked! The ignition was on... the car autolocks (this feature was immediately disabled after the incident). Mama started to panic, luckily Tina yee yee was calm enough to rush to church with Uncle Justin and called the police on the way. About 10 mins later, a fire truck with 3 firemen came, it took them less then 5 min to safe Kaitlin out.

Kaitlin was good, just cried a little while inside the car, but for the most part she was entertaining herself. And thank God that the car was not under the sun. Thank God for the timely rescue which reminds us of the true meaning of the birth of Jesus.

This is my first time having vaccination... i think baba and mama are more nervous than me.

I was a little shocked when the nurse put the needle in my thigh while i was peacefully sucking on my bottle... i stopped, opened my mouth for 2 seconds before i started crying...

Well Visits

My first doc's visit was on 10-22, when i was only 5 days old because I had a little jaundice after birth. I was 6lb 5 oz. Thanks to Tina yee for driving us to the doctor.

Went to the doc a week after, thank God that my jaundice has all cleared and I have gained 10oz in a week! A little more than usual, but that helps clearing the jaundice.

Hello world! I am 7 days old today and loving to be here. Let me tell you a little about myself:

I am living with mama, baba, Grandma, Grandpa and Tina yee yee and they take great care of me. All of them can't help but smile when they see my face :). I have met a lot of people these few days--Helen yee yee and my new Jaci yee cheung even drove all the way down from SF to see me! The coolest part was that I got to meet my Great-grandma.

Yesterday was my first doctor's appointment where I found out I have almost reach my birth weight again! I am growing up so fast only sleeping, eating and looking cute all day long. Just look at my pictures:

Baby preparation at full gear starting October, but both baba and mama got a little cold after the SF trip. We got a lot of baby stuff from Auntie Cora and Auntie Ellen from SF. The past 2 weeks, we've been shopping for the rest of the stuff. Baba installed car seat and bassinet, mama and Tina yee yee did baby laundry, etc.

Today is October 16
- mama's 1st day of maternity leave
- mama felt contractions at around 430am... not sure if it's real labor... we'll see
- baba went to office to pick up work... if it's for real, he'll rush back :P
- mama's writing this blog while waiting to see if there will be more contractions.

Addendum:
- turned out that it was the day... we got admitted at the hospital at 4pm
- monitored for about 1hr and moved labor n delivery room #8 at around 5pm
- Kailtin was delivered 1:50am 10/17/2007

Haven't been updating the blog for a while... so here is a recap of major events:

Sept 1 - officially moved out of the apt to Grandma's and Grandpa's.

Mid Sept - start all the baby caring and Lamaze classes. New house remodelling started.

Sept 22 - very nice and intimate baby shower held by the Cheung's. Got a lot of gifts from all the aunties, including this diaper cake made by Tina yee yee.

Leaving Our First Home in a Week

The last few weeks were spent mostly at Ikea, Home Depot, Lowes... researching for floor tiles, kitchen cabinets, paint color, electrical appliances, etc.... meeting with contractors, looking for temporary storage space, packing...

Baba still has long commute, lacking sleep, but still manages to play some wii's Mario Striker and XBox' Virtual Tennis III...

This is another important date.

Another OB visit. Kaitlin is 26 weeks and 3 days old. Dr. Yu says you're about 2-2.5lbs. Mama's rash has subsided a lot, Dr. says I'm lucky that it shows sign of recovery before delivery, I know it's God's grace, we (ba, ma, n a lot of aunties & uncles) have been praying about this. It's not completely gone but it's much more bearable.

And we got the keys to our new house! Another gift from God. We will have to get in the remodeling and moving process soon. keep u posted.

Glucose test results is ok, thanks to God. Dr. Yu recommends mama to cut down on carbs and sugar so that your weight will be more manageable.

You have been moving a lot lately. Baba can also feel your fist/leg moving mama's belly :D

In a few days, we'll get the key to our new house. Baba has been working hard to finish drafting the floor plan of our new home. Maybe he can show us some picture later.

Glucose Tolerance Test

Dr. Yu called yesterday. Bile Acid test is ok, so mama doesn't have a liver problem, which is good, thank God. But the glucose test seems high... so a 3-hr glucose tolerance test is needed...

Went to the lab this morning, had the 1st tube of blood drawn, then drink the "7-up" and had blood drawn every hour, total of 4...

Still working on the rash and itchiness. I just got the Rainier soup and relief cream online (suggested by other moms on the message boards), we'll see how that work.

Went to the lab early to get some tests done:

1. The glucose screening test is a rountine test done around 24 weeks.
2. The bile acid test is done because of the rash

Will find out the result in a few days.

After using the hydrocortisone cream for a few days, the itchiness seems to be less intense though we can still see the rash. Thanks Baba for helping me with the household chores and putting on cream for me to where I can't reach... it really helps, letting me rest more and alleviating a lot of irritation.

And thank you, Kaitlin, for moving a lot, that's very assuring.

This week, I started developing rash on my body and hands, and it's getting really itchy especially on the back of my hands... sometimes Baba has to hold my hands so that I won't keep scratching and can get some sleep...

Finally had to go see Dr. Yu today. She thinks it's some kind of pregnancy rash and put me in the higher risk pregnancy category...because the rash is just a symptom of a condition that we're not sure how that will affect you... She prescribes a steroid cream for me... to sooth the itch so that i can sleep but she anticipates that the rash will spread and can only be completely gone after you're born... We need to monitor your movement, so please kick Mama once in a while.

More tests to be done, but we're putting all our trust in the Father that you'll be ok and Mama can stand the itchiness.

July 8, 2007 - BBQ at Uncle Kevin's

We went to Uncle Kevin's house after watching the animated movie "Ratatouille." We like it a lot, maybe we should buy the DVD and watch it with you when you're older.

At Uncle Kevin's, we had a great BBQ... lots of food... Gor gor je je had a great time swimming at the kiddie pool, playing soccer and riding bikes. It was a perfect reunion for the adults, we have known each other more than 10 years... especially with Uncle Patrick and Auntie Christine came back from South Carolina for summer vacation.

Baba & Mama have been looking for a house to prepare for your arrival. I think around 6/17, we made another offer and got it... it was a little fast but we trust that's what God prepares for us. We still have a lot of things to do, paper work, inspection, remodeling... before we can finally move in. Looking forward to bring you there.

6/26 - 4th visit to Dr. Yu. 21 weeks. Everything looks fine, Mama's weight gain is in good pace.

Amnio test - Baba went with Mama to see a specialist for this test. It's a test that requires sticking a needle to Mama's tummy and get some amnio fluid. You didn't cooperate the first time, keep moving to the spot that the Dr. wanted to put the needle in. But we tried again and did it the 2nd time. It was a little painful... and left two tiny holes on my belly... but it's all worth it to know that you're ok and we confirm that you're a girl from the test!

Here is another ultrasound picture, you're now about 19 weeks old.

Feel your first move: 6/12 while staying home after the amnio. It's very funny, it's like a little bubble swimming in my belly :)

May 31 - June 4 Trip to Vancouver

This is your first time on a plane. I think we left at around 4:ooam to go to the airport since our flight is 7:45am.

It was a great trip with baba and mama's small group brothers and sisters. We went to Vancouver, Richmond, Victoria... the scenaries, weather, and food were all very good.

On the 1st day when we were touring Gas Town in Vancouver downtown, baba picked out this key chain at a souvenir shop. At the time, we still didn't know whether you're a boy or girl, but we like the name Kaitlin for a girl, so we took the the picture of the key chain on mama's belly. With hindsight, we should have bought that...

Today is the second visit to Dr. Yu.

We didn't see ultra sound, but we heard your heartbeat, it's a funny sound, very fast 150bpm, but it's normal.

You're now 13.5 weeks. Mama is thankful to have a pretty easy first trimester (first 13 week of pregnancy), no nausea at all, only very tired and sleep a lot. Sometimes Baba would see Mama "passed out" at 9pm and it just amazed him.

Today is baba & mama's 1st year anniversary. After sunday worship, baba took mama (and you of course) to the Renaissance Fair. It's pretty neat, we saw glass blowing and jousting tournament, etc. And people dressing up as if they were in the Medieval or Renaissance time. I guess you'll learn about these in history classes later. Maybe one of these years, we can take you there again. We then went to Sesame Grill to have dinner.

April 27 - Mama's best friend, Auntie Ellen, gave birth to a baby girl, Emma Brie. Maybe you two will grow up to be good friends like the moms?

April 28 - We ate out with porpor, kunkun, auntie tina & uncle justin to pre-celebrate mama & baba's 1st year anniversary. Auntie Tina bought us a cake and we had it at home afterwards.

Our first prenatal visit to Dr. Deborah Yu. Mama went through a lot of phone calls and research to finally be able to make an appointment with Dr. Yu.

Baba and Mama found out that we are going to have a baby... not sure how accurate home pregnancy tests are... we tested again the next day and it's positive again!

Although we have been thinking about having a baby after our first year of marriage (4-29-06), it's still very surreal, God answers our prayers so quickly.
